For a second I think that I have actually succeeded—my second stupid idea of the day. Damn, I‘m batting 0 for 2. I just dropped enough ammo to evaporated a freight ship and that monstrosity just sits there...completely...unscathed.

I’m totally going to die.

Well, at least it looks like the pirate ship might get away. Of course that just makes it worse. I’m going to die to save some fucking pirate?! What the hell was I thinking?!

Then the ringing starts. It begins as a sound, but grows from there until it permeates my body and I can feel it seeping through my veins. I want to scream, cry, vomit, anything, but I am all frozen up like I’m having a seizure. His face is on the monitors again. Except this time there are no wonder twins to save me. Oh hell, JUST GET IT OVER WITH YOU BASTARD!

I thought the ringing was bad, but it has nothing on the laughter. There is just enough time to register my agony when I look up and see Him coming through the fucking view screen. Tendrils of blackness pour out of the screen and he leaps at me like some feral animal. God, He has to be eight feet tall.

He is on me, lifting me by the shirt...No, He is lifting me by my fucking heart. Holding me in the air, inches from his shriveled, vein covered face. And then I see the scar on His face and I am laughing. He’s tried to cover it up by putting a cross on it, but I can see that he’s mortal, just like me. He’s no more a God than...CRUNCH.

I fall to the floor in a heap. What did he do to me?

“You will live, pathetic adulterer that you are. I would prefer that it were otherwise, but the Lord has spoken. ‘Woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.’”

“You. You will live until the Lord comes again. All that you love will die and pass on and yet you will survive and wish you were dead. Everything that you want or desire will crumble like dust in your fingers. No woman will desire you because of what you have become.”

“I have failed this day because I showed mercy. God shows no mercy. ‘Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him.’ You will live on as my reminder of my failing.”
